Inspired by the environmental benefits and versatility of prefabricated engineered timber, 25 King showcases timber from roof to floor. The 9-storey plus ground superstructure utilises a combination of revolutionary engineered Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) and glulam (glue laminated timber). The glulam is used for the structural beams and columns, and the CLT for the floors, lift shafts and escape stairs.
The prefabricated engineered timber has a lower carbon footprint than traditional building materials, and is sourced from certified sustainably-managed forests. It also allows for precise offsite prefabrication and safer onsite construction.
Amongst the key reasons 25 King was awarded the prize, it demonstrated the beauty, safety, sustainability benefits, practicality and cost-effectiveness of prefabricated engineered timber construction and offered a revolutionary construction methodology that has the potential to forever alter the future (and height) of sustainable building in Australia.
As Australia’s tallest and largest prefabricated engineered-timber commercial building offering world class office space inside a timber building it represents the second iteration of a CLT building for Lendlease.
The timber used in 25 King was 100 per cent responsibly sourced from forests with full chain-of-custody certification. Featuring exposed timber beams, a grand colonnade at ground level, and expanses of glass revealing warm timber interiors, 25 King was designed with holistic sustainability and wellbeing as a priority and features a highly sustainable model.
